My First Regeneration

A time traveler’s machine has crashed on a planet. To leave, you move between realms and gather the materials the machine still needs. I designed the props that help teach that loop.

The problem

The player needs to know what to take, what powers the machine, and what is watching. I wanted the drone, the reactor, and the crystals to carry that without extra UI.

The loop

  1. Crash
  2. Travel
  3. Gather
  4. Escape

What I owned

  • Hero scout drone — hull, visor light, silhouette
  • Realm reactor as the crashed machine’s heart
  • Crystal gatherables: spear and cluster reads
  • Greybox scale pass so the objects sit at a playable size

Stills

Realm reactor — power you can still pick out in silhouette.

Crystal gatherables in greybox, scaled against a figure — spear and cluster as two reads of the same material.

Process

  1. 01

    Drone first

The sphere needed to feel like a companion, not a ball. Magenta visor, antenna, weathered hull — one object that still works on a simple black field.

  2. 02

    Power has a body

The reactor is the machine you are trying to restart. Rings, cables, a cross of light — it should feel live even as a still.

  3. 03

    Scale the take

Crystals went into greybox against a figure so spear and cluster share a material language at a size you would actually pick up.

Outcome

A small set of authored objects for the brief: something that flies with you, something that still hums, and the material that helps you leave.
